A businessman wanted by the Metropolitan Police over a suspected £7m mortgage scam has been arrested in Spain.
Martin Power, 47, was taken into custody by Spanish police in Malaga, it has emerged.
He had been placed on a recent 'most wanted' list by a crime-fighting charity, and was originally thought to be hiding in the Turkish-controlled area of Cyprus.
The Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) and Crimestoppers confirmed the arrest of Power, earlier on Thursday.
Power was sought by police on a European Arrest Warrant over his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to defraud a number of mortgage lenders, by obtaining loan advances for properties by deception.
The businessman was the fourth wanted person arrested after 'Operation Zygos' was launched last September.
The multi-agency operation was started to alert people over nine suspected northern Cyprus residents who were wanted by British police.
Spanish national police captured Power in the Riviera del Sol area of Mijas, Malaga, on April 9.
The nine 'most wanted' included a suspected drugs baron, a serial rapist and a hit-and-run killer.
The Cypriot operation follows a similar initiative launched in Spain in 2006, known as Operation Captura, to target criminals hiding in the Costa del Sol.
To date that operation has achieved 49 arrests from a list of 65 suspects, with subsequent convictions for drug trafficking to sex crimes and murder.
A third programme in Amsterdam, called Operation Return, has also seen five arrests from a list of 12 wanted people.
Crimestoppers director of operations Roger Critchell said: "This positive result continues to prove that public cooperation teamed with our anonymous service in partnership with Soca means that there are less places for criminals to hide.
"Nearly half of the subjects who appeared in Operation Zygos have been arrested in less than six months, this is an incredible achievement and as a charity we would like to thank the public for contacting us with information."
