A man has died after he was hit by a car while crossing the M6 following a police chase.
Officers had been pursuing the man from Blackpool after he failed to stop for a police patrol in the area.
The man, who is believed to be from the seaside town, made off at speed in a grey Ford Focus Sport.
He made his way on to the M55 motorway and then on to the M6 southbound before stopping on the hard shoulder around one mile north of Charnock Richard services.
The motorist crossed the three lanes of the major road on foot and was struck by a car on the northbound carriageway at around 9.20pm on Sunday. He died at the scene.
The motorway was closed for several hours in both directions between junctions 27 and 28 near Shevington and all traffic diverted onto the M61, but has since reopened.
Lancashire Police has launched an investigation and the case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
