Labour's election campaign guru David Axelrod has been left red-faced after wrongly spelling the party leader's name.

The master tactician, who oversaw Barack Obama's US presidential victories, has shown himself to be just as fallible as the next person when it comes to social media.

In a tweet aimed at praising Labour, Mr Axelrod misspelled Ed Miliband's name - using two Ls instead of one.

Axelrod meets shadow cabinet Mr Axelrod was in London this week to met Labour's frontbench team

His Twitter post said: "Enjoyed my visit with @Ed_Milliband and his @UKLabour team."

The blunder was compounded by the fact the incorrect spelling linked to a spoof account in the name of the opposition leader.

The Tories were swift to seize on the slip-up, which came after Mr Axelrod met Labour's front bench team and other senior party figures during a visit to London.

The gaffe served to overshadow the rest of Mr Axelrod's tweet, in which he said: "I was inspired by the brilliant, tireless young women and men I met at HQ."

He was hired last month for what is reported to be a six-figure salary to help bolster the party's fortunes ahead of the 2015 general election.
