Vince Cable and Nick Clegg shared a pint together in their first public appearance since the Business Secretary was accused of being part of a plot to bring down the Lib Dem leader.
There were claims last week that Dr Cable had been part of a botched coup to trigger a leadership contest after a dismal showing for the Liberal Democrats in the local and European elections.
However, Dr Cable, who was on a business trip to China at the time, denied being any part of the plot and roundly condemned the Liberal Democrat peer behind it.
Lord Oakeshott resigned last week after Dr Cable outed him as the man who had commissioned and leaked a poll which showed Mr Clegg could lose his Sheffield Hallam seat at the General Election.
Pint-drinking photo opportunities are usually the preserve of Nigel Farage The Tuesday morning outing to the Queen's Head pub in central London was a chance for the Lib Dem pairing to trumpet reform to the pub industry to give landlords more freedom from the big chains.
However, the majority of the press was kept out of the central London pub they chose for the photo opportunity and were reduced to tweeting pictures taken through the window.
It will be one of a number of measured championed by Mr Clegg's party to be officially announced in the Queen's Speech on Wednesday.
The party is keen to make sure the public know they were the prime movers behind policies such as tax-free childcare for working parents and voters' rights to recall corrupt MPs.
Mr Clegg pulled a pint of London Pride for Dr Cable and an Archer Mild Ale for himself, the Deputy Prime Minister didn't finish his, but the Business Secretary did.
Mr Clegg said: "Vince has been very, very clear - he had absolutely no idea what Matthew Oakeshott was getting up to with his polls.
"All I would say is setting personalities aside, we had a really bad result last week.
Dr Cable said: "We work together, I support his leadership. We're going to move on from some very difficult elections. I'm optimistic we are going to turn this corner."
He added: "I haven't been communicating with Lord Oakeshott recently."
